After leaving Cape Cod in mid-September, Bill and I made our way to New Jersey for three weeks in October. We visited with friends and family – as best we could under the circumstances – and met with the obligatory medical professionals.
Now that we’re back on the grid…
We spent 5 days in New Bern, NC, a town we had visited before and really liked! We spent time exploring the area, looking at several properties and decided that it is a bit too rural for us once you get out of the city. We experienced the retail shops and restaurants and hit the weekly Farmer’s Market on Saturday morning
Now that we’re back on the grid...
On Sunday, November 1 we relocated to Beaufort, NC where we will be until January 1.
We settled into our site at Beaufort Waterway RV Park which is directly on the Intracoastal Waterway. Look at our view! We have watched boats of all sizes pass by and it never gets old! A shrimp boat is docked right next to us which comes and goes – in fact it left today – and offers those at the RV park fresh shrimp whenever they come in. We are already on the list and can’t wait for the boat’s return!
We joined a gym! That is always a priority whenever we change our location. We found a Snap Fitness that meets our needs and where everyone is extremely friendly – Crystal is the best!
We’ve explored the surrounding area – Morehead City, Atlantic Beach, Pine Knoll Shores – including golf courses, restaurants, beaches, hiking trails and more!
We went to Fort Macon State Park, where we hiked the Elliott Coues Nature Trail and experienced the fort, which was active during the Civil War and then was used again to protect the Beaufort Inlet during World War II. Some of the original brick edifice is still standing and the various exhibits gave us a thorough and realistic idea of how life was in the 1860’s and beyond!
Now that we’re back on the grid…
The weather here in North Carolina has been beautiful…cool evenings and mornings and warming up to a perfect 75 degrees during the day. Yesterday, after the gym we decided to grab a sandwich and head to the beach – Atlantic Beach to be exact. We spent three hours relaxing, reading, and snoozing. What could be more wonderful?
Believe it or not, we haven’t been dining out as much as usual – blame Covid – but after a beach day we decided to hit the Beaufort waterfront and try Black Sheep, which had been recommended by several people. We sat outside – among the most amazing yachts – and enjoyed a delicious Caesar salad, a brick oven pepperoni pizza, and red wine…the end to a perfect day!
Now that we’re back on the grid…
Those of you who have been following me and Bill know that we enjoy playing golf – most days – and have played everywhere we go. Today, we experienced something quite unique. While there are several golf courses close to us, we drove only 15 miles to the Cherry Branch – Minnesott Ferry and took the 20 minute free ferry ride to Minnesott Beach, NC, where we played 18 holes of golf at the Minnesott Golf and Country Club. Great day…nice course…good game? Still swinging!
Although we’ve only been here 5 days, we have been very active, yet very relaxed. It’s a gorgeous part of eastern North Carolina and we have much, much more to explore and discover, Stay tuned!
Stay Calm and Travel On..
