As a workamper, not only is it important to keep in touch with your family, but it is also essential to me, to stay connected with your girlfriends! Most often, when I am home we attend a performance at the Walnut Street Theater, after a dinner in Philadelphia, but this fall we decided to try something different!
Our plan was to have dinner at In Riva, an Italian restaurant “with an urban flair,” located on the Schuykill River in East Falls, specializing in authentic Italian food, including pizza made in their wood fire oven, visible in the open kitchen. They also boast various salads, small plate pasta dishes, and a full bar.
Due to a tremendous amount of traffic in the Philadelphia area, we were about an hour late for our 5:30 reservations, but fortunately, we were still able to be seated. Our next stop was scheduled for 7:30 so we consumed a delicious dinner rather quickly, and indeed, it truly was delicious! Three of us shared three small plate pastas – Shrimp Fra Diablo, Rigatoni with Sausage, and Ravioli stuffed with Goat Cheese and Artichokes – one was as tasty as the next! The remaining two girlfriends feasted on Broccolini Salad. Believe it or not we accomplished our goal and in an hour were headed to The Glow – A Jack O’ Lantern Experience!
The Glow is located in Fairmount Park and features over 5,000 masterfully carved and illuminated pumpkins. The pumpkins are displayed along a third of a mile paved pathway and include various artistic groupings including motorcycles, dinosaurs, an amusement park, and an underwater paradise! You will also witness carvings of people and places particular to Philadelphia – Look at Rocky, the LOVE sculpture, the Phillies, the Eagles, and various spooky personalities!
The weather was mild and delightful and the fact that visitors are allowed to enter only in time segments, made this spooky stroll a unique experience for sure! If you are near Philadelphia during this Halloween season, The Glow is a definite must for all ages! They are even offering special tickets for families in the autism community – on these days the trail will open a little before dark, the music will play a tad softer, and even fewer visitors will be permitted to enter. Tickets are also discounted on Thursdays and during their “Late Night – Date Night” – the 9:30 and 10:00 slots every night!
