Getting Our Rub On!

Having arrived at Traveler’s World in San Antonio on Saturday, we are finally feeling somewhat settled in our new site. After a rainy day Sunday, we jumped right into golf on Monday and played with a group of 12 at River Bend Golf Club in Floresville. Since we hadn’t played much golf at all in Cape Cod, it felt great to get out on the links – even though my game might not have compared to that great feeling!!

Tuesday we decided to hit the San Antonio River Walk Bike Trail that the campground backs right up to. The trail is actually 30 miles of asphalt and concrete that runs on both sides of the river, winding through neighborhoods, parks, restaurants and shopping. We turned right out of the campground and headed south which is known as the “Mission Reach.” You can actually bike to several of the Spanish frontier missions, including Mission San Jose, Mission Concepcion, and Mission Espada, the oldest mission in Texas.

IMG_0441Our plan today, however, was to bike to Stinson Airport to try the BBQ at The Big Bib. Why is it that so many small municipal airports have “hidden gem” eating establishments housed in their midst? Well, the Big Bib is certainly no exception! Tucked away in the airport terminal, we discovered excellent brisket – have my friends and followers noticed that Bill and I have been sampling BBQ on this journey, starting in Nashville in much the same way we sampled New England clam chowder everywhere we ate in Cape Cod?! Well, The Big Bib ranks pretty high in our on-going exploration and search for the ultimate best BBQ!

We not only relished our lunch but also enjoyed witnessing several small planes take off as we dined, and following our robust meal, we pedaled even harder on the trip back to Traveler’s World!

Stay Calm and Travel On…
